White rice is essentially brown rice that has been polished with the removal of outer husk, bran and germ. It’s farmed sustainably, grown in Australia and stamped with a Demeter biodynamic certification and has an extended shelf life to ensure.
Biodynamic white rice.
Pesticides, insecticides and fungicides.
Did you know non-organic rice crops are usually sprayed with pesticides and insecticides? While intended only for the pests, these chemicals can cause long-term health problems for us, including hormone disruption, lung irritation and neurological disorders.
Farmed in Barham, in the Riverina District of New South Wales.
Butter chicken or rogan josh? Basmati rice is the ultimate sidekick to Indian dishes – especially curries and stews.
Just over the New South Wales border lies a 1820-hectare rice crop and sheep-grazing property, alive with the sounds of frogs and dragonflies. Barham Growers has been in Andrew and David McConnell’s family for over a century, and now they’ve got the reigns. For more than 25 years, the McConnells have been farming sustainably: they turned their back on fertilisers and pesticides and converted their farm to biodynamic practices. Their rice in particular gets very special treatment. Rather than poisoning the pasture, they let sheep graze until the paddocks are bare. They then sow the rice and flood the paddock, later saving the water in their dams for later use. No intervention, just wholesome rice as nature intended.
