Mousso Faso - A Female Farming Collective in Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in western Africa. With an extreme climate, the country can be affected by both drought and flooding within a few months. Being largely rural, the economy is centred around agriculture.
And although women represent the majority of the agricultural workforce, they are unable to inherit land or have their own water wells.
Mousso Faso (meaning “homeland of the wholehearted woman”), a predominantly female farming collective in Burkina Faso, was set up in 2017 to facilitate a trading relationship whereby farming families, are able to sell directly to international customers, which yields better economic returns.
The cooperative also improves working conditions, supports the children of all members to receive an education and helps to promote sustainable farming techniques.
Madame Tiger shares the collective’s determination to see these women and their families succeed, and accordingly, purchased Mousso Faso’s entire 2020, 2021 and 2022 harvest of tiger nuts.
Madame Tiger and Mousso Faso are proof that amazing things happen when passionate people with big hearts come together.

Behind the Brand
Madame Tiger
“Tiger what?!” you might ask. Tiger nuts are actually not nuts at all but tubers (like sweet potatoes) which get their name from the stripes found on their exterior. Madame Tiger’s founder Laura, was introduced to these small, sweet, earthy delights by her father-in-law, who grew up with them as a staple snack food in Mali, West Africa.
Inspired by her love for experimenting with weird and wonderful ingredients, she set out to create a plant-based milk with premium quality, sustainably-sourced ingredients. Instead of the seed oils and emulsifiers typically found in non-dairy milks, Madame Tiger uses Australian extra-virgin olive oil and sustainably grown faba bean protein.
The organic tiger nuts are sourced from the Mousso Faso farming collective set up in Burkina Faso, in West Africa. There, the tiger nuts are grown using only rainwater, without pesticides or chemicals, meaning there is no known damage to the soil, land or air when farming them.
So if you’re looking for an alternative to almond, soy or oat milk, take a walk on the wild side and try Madame Tiger.
