Food Allergy
Food allergies occur when a person's immune system has a reaction to a particular food/s.The immune system then produces allergy antibodies called Immunoglobulin E (IgE) that can result in a range of symptoms, including hives or rashes, swelling of the mouth and lips, stomach pain, or in the case of anaphylaxis, swelling of the throat and difficulty breathing.
More than 1.5 million Australians live with a food allergy, and the top nine food allergens are food allergens are cow's milk (dairy), egg, peanut, tree nuts, sesame, soy, fish, shellfish, and wheat.
By becoming more allergy aware, we are able to support those living with food allergies and provide safe environments, both within and outside the home, for them to enjoy meals.
