Frequently Asked Questions

Are all rice crackers gluten free?

No. Rice is naturally gluten free, but some rice crackers add ingredients that aren't. Spiral Foods rice crackers are sweetened with a brown rice syrup that contains barley malt, and barley is a gluten grain. Always check the ingredient list, not just the main grain.

Is glutinous rice gluten free?

Yes. "Glutinous" describes how sticky the rice is when cooked. It contains no gluten. Ceres Organics Crispy Rice Crackers are made with it.

Is buckwheat gluten free?

Yes. Despite the name, buckwheat isn't related to wheat. It's the seed of a plant related to rhubarb, and it's naturally gluten free.

Is spelt gluten free?

No. Spelt is an ancient type of wheat and contains gluten, so spelt crispbreads aren't suitable for a gluten free diet.

Which crackers are grain free?

No Grainer Paleo Crackers are made from almond flour and seeds, with no grains or pseudo-grains. The other gluten free crackers above still use rice, quinoa, buckwheat or corn.

Are these crackers suitable for coeliacs?

Every cracker in our gluten free lists is made without gluten ingredients, and Mary's Gone Crackers are made in a dedicated gluten free bakery. If you have coeliac disease, check the pack's allergen statement too, since some products are made in facilities that also handle gluten.

How did you check these?

We read the ingredient list for every cracker in our range. Brands do update their recipes from time to time, so the pack is always the final word.
